How? Where?

My weekly updates

  • Sustainability: The main focus of this past week has been preparing presentation materials for the OSC business model for donors and alignment with new DIAL strategy. I’ve participated in a few meetings with @harensen & @sfarooqi who have prepared quite a bit of material; and I’ll be developing some narrative material based on a presentation outline from @jwatson yesterday.

  • Membership programs: A large flurry of CG-04 applications came in over the weekend, and I’m now working to organize, sort, and prepare them for evaluation. As highlighted in the daily standup reports, we continue to await the DIAL/UNF contract review process for Bitergia, and OSC member projects are standing by to begin working with them on analytics services. We’ve completed our move of “support” inquiries over to the OSC Hub, and began to handle several of them, including requests for consultation on fiscal sponsorship and other governance activities. Tomorrow we have a meeting scheduled with Digital Square and plan to discuss content engagement plans and using the Hub for various things.

  • Mentorship programs: We have 8 projects funded and rostered for the mid-year Outreachy round. As highlighted in the daily standup reports, we continue to await the DIAL/UNF grant amendment process to accelerate invoicing by the end of March per request from DIAL finance. OSC member projects have successfully loaded in project ideas, which will activate tomorrow March 5. GSoC preparation continues as students have begun reviewing sub-orgs’ project ideas. We continue to work with sub-orgs on refining their materials and updating the #programs:gsoc-suborgs tracker. Orientation meeting scheduled with first-time sub-orgs Primero on Friday and hopefully moja global in the next several days.

Meeting notes

  • The DIAL communications team led us in a discussion about key messages. We looked at a work-in-progress list of key messages related to global goods, and discussed how these might relate to OSC’s policy views and ideas we want to communicate.
    • We also discussed how this will interact with the DIAL 2.0 strategy work that’s ongoing, particularly with respect to timing.
    • The DIAL communications team will re-circulate a previous “one-pager” for comments, and then a smaller group will look at short-term messaging we can do in the meanwhile, while the larger strategy continues to develop.
  • @harensen reviewed the status of a new consulting project being prepared with a new member project, and its status. There are a few revisions of the proposal that still need to happen before the project kickoff meeting, which will be in the next couple weeks. The paperwork will still need to go through UNF approvals.
  • @rpatterson gave us an update on three different agreements already working their way through the approval process.
    • Our contract with @partner-bitergia is approved but just needs to get entered into the e-signature workflow, which should kick off by tomorrow.
    • Grant amendment for accelerated Outreachy payment was revised but is currently in limbo due to a new person in UNF handling grants.
    • An agreement for a new project with an existing member project is also underway, with a final adjustment submitted today.
  • We have a meeting tentatively scheduled with @project-opensrp for Friday, and will also check in about the status of a past grant, to determine if any more paperwork needs to be done.
  • The time tracking issues and labels are ready for use in GitLab, and folks are encouraged to log chargeable time to them starting this week. If you see things missing, or are unsure where something should go, contact @downey for assistance or guidance.
  • DIAL monthly reports will be published next Tuesday. @downey will be in touch with team members for updates over the next few days.
